Best 3D printer for beginners - Anycubic Vyper

If you are new to 3D printing and have never used a 3D printer before, we recommend that you purchase the Anycubic Vyper. Anycubic Vyper is a "simple and easy to use" FDM 3D printing product with platform auto-configuration unmatched by other products. Here is the reason as below:

1. Easy to assemble and easy to use
As a 3D printer newbie, we should consider ease of assembly and ease of use when choosing our first 3D printer. Vyper is very easy to install and can be assembled and used in a few steps. The whole fuselage is modular, and it only takes a few minutes to assemble after receiving the goods, which is very convenient for the user, and even a novice with no installation experience can easily complete the installation of Vyper. Viper is your best bet.

2.Auto leveling function
It can be said that alignment is an obstacle for beginners. Over 80% or even 90% of print failures are caused by alignment. A lot of beginners give up on the new world of 3D printing because re-leveling isn't smooth. Vyper's autoscaling platform is very user friendly. Simply press the "Auto Level" button on the screen and the machine will automatically perform an accurate alignment. In other words, even if you don't know anything about 3D printers, you won't have to worry about the most troublesome upgrade. Users who have used this feature report that they have never experienced a print failure problem caused by uneven heating of the table after using this machine.

3. High speed and high precision
Vyper is a 3D printing device with high speed and precision. The maximum recommended print speed for conventional printers is 60mm/s, while Vyper print speeds can reach up to 100m/s. FDM machines definitely improve print quality a lot. FDM hardware is notoriously slow to print, while Vyper's overall speed nearly doubles, meaning it takes half the time to print a model to a finished product with the same quality as regular 3D printing hardware. For the small-scale industry or the DIY studio, speed means money.

Anycubic Vyper--Equipped with a new 32-bit motherboard and high performance Cortex-M3 main control chip, Vyper features faster computing speed and smoother system. The integration of the TMC2209 silent driver allows the motherboard to have both quiet printing and precise control of the output voltage, resulting in more accurate and quieter printing.

Description of the installation of Anycubic Vyper

  1. Be careful when installing to avoid injury due to the sharp edge and angle of the panel.
  2. The printer must be assembled on a flat worktop. It is recommended to place all the parts in order to ensure ease of assembly.
  3. The color of some printers may differ from those shown on the document due to differences in lighting and ink, but this does not affect the assembly and use of the printer.
  4. The firmware was pre-loaded on the motherboard. After assembly is complete, level the platform and load the filament, then you can start printing.

To ensure printer quality, all printers have been aging tested before they leave the factory, so there may be very little use/test marks left on the print head or heated bed in some places, which will not affect print quality. If there are slight scratches on the aluminum profiles or a slight unevenness of the platform, this is normal as long as the print quality is not affected. Thank you very much for your understanding.

* Remove the tools from the tool box on the front right side of the printer base.

1. Frame installation

2. Screen installation

3. Installing the filament spool holder

!!! Look carefully at the figure below, pay attention to how the Teflon tube and print head cable pass.

4. Insert the Teflon tube on the print head into the extruder.

5. Connection of cables: connect all cables to their ports, 7 connections in total, following the corresponding markings on them.

6. Secure the printhead cable and Teflon tube with zip ties.

Check before operation

1. Make sure that the excess free end of the 4 ties shown in the figure has been cut off before use.

2. The D-wheels on the printer base may be loosened during transportation, after unpacking, place the base on a stable horizontal table, shake the print platform, if the platform oscillates in the vertical direction, tighten the hex nut of the right D-wheel under the platform.

  • Move platform forward to tighten pulley A.
  • Move platform back to tighten pulley B.

Leveling Anycubic Vyper Platform

Print bed alignment is a key step in 3D printing and largely determines whether the model can be securely attached to the print bed. If the nozzle is too far away from the print bed, this will cause the first layer of the model to not properly adhere to the print bed. platform. If the nozzle is too close to the print platform, it will prevent the material from extruding and scratch the platform. The quality of the first layer directly affects the print quality of the model. After leveling, there is no need to level before each print. Vyper supports auto leveling, making it easy for users to level the platform.

* In order to ensure the best leveling effect, before starting work, make sure that there is no filament residue under the tip of the nozzle and that the platform is kept clean and free of foreign objects.

1. Check the input voltage indicated on the power box, ensure that the correct input voltage is supplied to the power supply (factory default is 220V, Chinese users do not need to do this alignment), then insert the power cord to turn on the power switch.

2. After starting the printer, click "System" → "Language" in the main menu to select the desired language.

3. Return to the main menu, click "Prepare" → "Leveling" → "Auto-leveling", and a pop-up window will appear prompting you to use the nozzle touch tool for calibration. Please note that you need to do the calibration within 1 minute, otherwise an error message box will appear automatically.

4. After successful calibration, the printer will reset and preheat the printhead and heated bed (if they are manually preheated to the set temperature before leveling, preheating will be automatically bypassed). When the set temperature is reached, the print head will automatically probe the alignment platform. * Do not touch the nozzle with your hand to avoid burns.

Description about Loading Anycubic Vyper Filament Filament

1. Return to the main menu, click "Prepare" → "Change Filament" → "Load Filament". When you press the "Load Filament" button, the heating reminder interface will appear on the screen, press "OK" to heat the print head.

2. Cut the thread head and straighten it, then place the spool on the holder (as shown in the picture). Then pass the filament through the filament break detection module and insert it into the extruder up to the gear.

3. When the nozzle is heated to the set temperature, press "Load Filament" again, and the filament will be fed by the extruder and forced through the nozzle. At this time, press "Stop" on the screen, then remove the remaining filament from the nozzle.

Note: If the filament does not extrude smoothly or has an excessively small diameter when loading the filament, adjust the pressure of the extruder as shown in the figure.

Model printing on Anycubic Vyper

After alignment is complete and filament is loaded, you can start printing. Users can print the GCode file on the memory card directly or the GCode file processed in the slicer. * There are many files saved on the memory card that comes with the printer, transfer all files except GCode files from the card to a computer, and then insert the memory card into the printer to print to avoid interference during printing.

1. Insert a memory card into the slot on the base of the printer and select the "owl.gcode" file to print. (Owl by etotheipi, www.thingiverse.com)

* Before printing, the print head will begin to heat up after the heated bed reaches the set temperature. When the heated bed and print head are at the target temperature, the printer will start printing.

2. There can be three kinds of results for the first layer when printing a model:

  • The nozzle is too close to the platform resulting in insufficient extrusion of the filament.

  • The nozzle is at a moderate distance from the platform for the best print quality.

  • The nozzle is too far from the platform resulting in poor filament adhesion to the platform.

If quality (1) and (3) occurs during printing, adjust "Z Offset" to improve print quality. (* Normally, after performing auto alignment, the filament adheres well to the platform, so "Offset Z-Axis" is not required.)

Z-axis offset adjustment method: Click "Settings" in the printing status display interface, then click "+" or "-" Z-axis offset to adjust the distance between the nozzle and the printing platform, and observe the printing effect at the same time.

a) The Z offset value ranges from -0.5 to 0.5. (Note: If this value is less than -0.5, it may damage the printer parts.)

b) After adjusting the Z offset value, click “OK”, and this adjusted value will be valid for the next printing; if you only press the "Return" button without pressing "OK", the offset will only be in effect for that print.

c) Patiently adjust the Z offset until the effect (2) is obtained. If the print effect is still unsatisfactory after several adjustments, stop printing and level the platform again.

3. After printing, the nozzle and heated bed are still hot. Be sure to pick up the model after the nozzle and heated bed have cooled down to prevent burns.

  • At ambient temperatures above 33°C, it is recommended that the "Wall Thickness" among the model slicing options is set to 1.6 mm.
  • When printing is complete, press the memory card to remove it if necessary.

Anycubic Vyper Slicer User Manual

A 3D printer prints 3D objects layer by layer by reading GCode files. The process of converting a 3D file (for example, stl format) by the user into a GCode file readable by the printer is called "slicing", i.e. “cutting” a 3D model into many layers. The software that can convert 3D files to GCode files is called a slicer.

Slicer instruction manual includes:

  1. Installing Cura
  2. Setting the printer model
  3. Importing a parameter configuration file
  4. Importing and configuring models
  5. Slice and preview
  6. Printing from a memory card and printing from a computer

1. Install Cura Find and double-click the application file Ultimaker_Cura-4.2.1-win64.exe on the memory card (see the memory card for the actual version), and then follow the steps below to install: * File path: Memory card → "File_English_Vype → "Cura Slicing Software" → "Windows" or "Mac".

* Attention: To print from a computer, you need to install a driver (as shown in the figure). If you are not printing from a computer, the driver may not install.

2. Printer Model Settings After the installation is completed, the following welcome interface will appear the first time you run the program. Click "Get started" to begin setting up the model.

We selected the Anycubic i3 Mega printer according to the wizard. Now we will set the parameters of the Vyper model based on the printer of this model.

* Language switch: click "Preferences" → "Configure Cura..." (upper left corner of the interface), click "General" on the left side of the pop-up interface, set the value of "Language" to "English", then restart the software, and settings will act.

Continue printing after a power failure on Anycubic Vyper

If there is a power failure during printing, the printer will automatically save the printing status. After restarting, an interface will appear on the screen asking you to continue printing after a power failure. If you want to continue printing, select "Continue", otherwise, select "Cancel".

after power is restored, all axes will return to their home position before continuing to print. When placing the model in slicing software (e.g. Cura) it is recommended to place the model as far back as possible on the platform (green dotted box) so as not to scratch the model during the homing of all axes.

Anycubic Vyper Routine Maintenance

If proper maintenance is not performed after using the printer for a long time, it will deteriorate the print quality and cause malfunctions such as nozzle clogging, no filament coming out of the nozzle, etc. Pay attention to maintenance of the printer while it is in use to prolong its life.

Below are some recommendations for routine maintenance:

  1. If there is filament residue in the nozzle, remove it immediately. The nozzle can be cleaned with a needle under the condition of preheating. If the thread residue in the nozzle cannot be removed with a needle, replace the nozzle.
  2. Add lubricating oil regularly to moving parts such as smooth rods, linear bearings, threaded rods, brass nuts, etc. Adding lubricating oil can reduce friction between moving parts, minimizing wear between bushings and smooth rods.
  3. Clean up after printing is complete. Dirt on the nozzle, platform, rail, motor, fan, etc. must be removed in a timely manner. The accumulation of dirt for a long time will make cleaning more difficult.
  4. Pay attention to the wear on the type D pulleys. If they are severely worn, replace them to ensure the quality of the printed model.
  5. After printing is complete, clean the print platform to ensure that the bottom layer of the model adheres optimally to the build platform.
  6. Belt slack indicates that the belt is loose and the belt tension needs to be adjusted at this time.

Troubleshooting guide for Anycubic Vyper

1. Vibration and abnormal motor noise for X/Y/Z axis

  • The limit switch on the corresponding axis cannot be actuated. Check for movement obstruction of the corresponding axle, especially when resetting.
  • The motor cable is not securely connected, check the connection of the cables.
  • Drive current too high/low (contact after-sales service personnel).
  • The electric motor is damaged.
  • Engine timing belt pulley is loose.
  • The belt is loose, check the belt tension in each X/Y/Z position, if the belt is slipping when the engine is running.

2. Impossibility of recognition of a memory card

  • The card may be damaged, insert the memory card into another device to check if the memory card can be read normally, if it cannot be read, replace the card.
  • The file is defective, see saving the GCode file in Printing from a Computer.
  • The screen is defective, restart the printer.

3. The filament cannot come out of the nozzle normally, the filament feed motor slips and makes abnormal noise

  • The filaments are tangled on the spool or the Teflon tube is deformed due to extrusion. Pull the thread to check if the resistance is normal.
  • The nozzle temperature is too low, increase the nozzle temperature accordingly (for PLA, the temperature is usually set to 190-210°C, for ABS, 230-240°C).
  • The nozzle is clogged. Try briefly heating the printhead to over 230°C and manually pushing the filament into the extruder, this will help remove any remaining filament. Or, clean the nozzle with a 0.4 mm needle under the condition of preheating. If the nozzle cannot be cleaned using the above method, replace the nozzle or use a spare print head.
  • Insufficient print head cooling. Check if the print head cooling fan is working properly.
  • The printer runs at a print speed higher than the maximum for a long time, reduce the print speed.
  • Check if the extruder is working normally and if the friction force of the extruder wheel on the filament is sufficient. Try tightening or cleaning the extruder wheel.

4. Leaking filament from the print head

  • Nozzle/heat block/hose not properly tightened, check and tighten/replace with spare printhead/contact after-sales personnel.

5. Layer shift

  • The print head is moving too fast, reduce the print speed.
  • The X/Y axis belt is too loose, the synchronous belt pulley is loose. Adjust the belt tension and tighten the synchronous belt pulley.
  • Drive current too low.

6. The first layer does not stick to the platform

  • Nozzle too far from platform, level again; At the same time, set the "initial layer thickness" to 0.2 in Cura and set the "initial layer line width" (for example, set to 150) to improve the adhesion of the first layer.
  • The print head is moving too fast, reduce the print speed for the bottom layer to 20.
  • Keep the platform clean and free from foreign objects.
  • Add "Brim" or "Raft" in the slicer to increase sticking strength to the platform.

7. Screen Freeze

  • Check if the soft cable above the screen is loose.
  • Check to see if there is an object pressing on the edge of the touch screen, which will cause no response when pressing on other parts of the screen.
  • Screen damaged in transit (contact after-sales service personnel).

8. T0 sensor anomaly alarm

  • Check if the cable on the printhead and the cable of the printhead adapter board of the lower electronic control box are loose or damaged.

9. The print head moves abnormally

  • Incorrect printer model setting in Cura slicer. See Printer Settings.

10. Printing stopped abnormally

  • There may be signal interference when printing from a computer, it is recommended to use the print from memory card mode.
  • The GCode file on the memory card is corrupted.
  • Plugins enabled when slicing with Cura, close all plugins enabled in Cura.
  • The quality of the memory card is unstable, try to change to a memory card of another brand.
  • The supply voltage is unstable. Retry printing when the voltage stabilizes.

11. Some model structure cannot be printed

  • For some special structures, such as suspended structures, etc., you need to add model supports, adjust the model angle in the slicer. It is recommended to preview the print layers to check the printability of the model.

12. Serious strings

  • Insufficient retract distance, it should be set to a larger value in the slicer.
  • Insufficient retract speed, it should be set to a higher value in the slicer.
  • The printing temperature is too high, resulting in high fluidity and viscosity of the filament. The print temperature should be set slightly lower.

13. Nozzle too high or too low when printing

  • If the nozzle is too high, a positive Z offset is required.
  • If the nozzle is too low, a negative Z offset is required.

Clue

1. High temperature is generated when the Anycubic 3D Printer is running. It is strictly forbidden to touch the working parts with your hand or directly contact with the extruded filament.

2. Wear heat-resistant gloves when handling the equipment to prevent burns.

3. Place the 3D printer and its accessories out of the reach of children.

4. If you need to replace the fuses, use a 250V 5A fuse to avoid short circuit.
