Description esun tpu-lw grey lightweight foamable tpu filament 0.75 kg

eSUN TPU-LW Grey Lightweight Foamable TPU Filament 0.75 kg

eSUN TPU-LW Grey 0.75 kg is a grey lightweight foamable TPU filament for FDM/FFF 3D printing. It is supplied on a plastic roll, convenient for standard filament holders and filament dry boxes. The material is based on TPU and can foam during printing, allowing lighter, softer and flexible parts with reduced density, a matte surface and less visible layer lines.

TPU-LW is suitable for aircraft models, ship models, cosplay props, flexible wearable parts, sporting accessories, shock-absorbing elements and technical prototypes. The foaming degree is controlled by temperature, printing speed and flow rate: stronger foaming reduces part weight and makes the structure softer. The grey color is especially useful for technical prototypes, mockups, functional parts, dampers, protective pads, cosplay elements and models that need a neutral professional appearance.

✅ Key advantages

  • Lightweight foamable TPU: helps reduce finished part weight through controlled foaming during printing.
  • Flexibility and resilience: suitable for elastic parts that need to bend and return to shape.
  • Adjustable density and hardness: print settings influence foaming degree, weight, softness and hardness of the finished model.
  • Maximum foaming ratio up to 172%: useful for lightweight structures and low-weight models.
  • Finished model hardness range: approximately 93A to 77A depending on foaming degree.
  • Matte surface: after foaming, the surface becomes visually softer and layer lines are less visible.
  • Grey color: suitable for engineering prototypes, technical models, dampers, protective elements and neutral visual parts.
  • Plastic roll: convenient for standard filament holders, dry boxes and long print jobs.

🔧 TPU-LW printing recommendations

  • Dry the filament at 55 ℃ for more than 4 hours before printing.
  • For stable feeding, use Direct Drive or the shortest and straightest possible filament path.
  • Disable retraction: TPU-LW continues foaming inside the hot nozzle chamber, so retraction may be ineffective.
  • Stringing during travel moves is normal for TPU-LW.
  • To reduce the impact of stringing, use vase mode if the model allows it.
  • Do not print multiple models at the same time because constant travel moves between objects can reduce surface quality.
  • Disable first-layer slowdown and small-area slowdown to keep temperature, speed and foaming stable.
  • At 260 ℃, a starting flow rate of about 58% can be used and then tuned by wall thickness and part weight.
  • The higher the temperature at the same speed, the stronger the foaming and the lower the required flow rate.
  • The higher the speed at the same temperature, the lower the foaming and the higher the required flow rate may be.
  • For printers with PTFE tubes, long printing above 250 ℃ is not recommended.
  • If printing above 250 ℃, an all-metal / high-temperature hotend is recommended.

🧩 Best applications

  • ⛵ Ship models and lightweight flexible parts.
  • 🎭 Cosplay props, soft decorative elements and wearable parts.
  • 🏃 Sporting accessories and equipment elements.
  • 🧤 Flexible wearable products, soft pads and protective elements.
  • 🧪 Prototypes for testing shape, weight, softness and elasticity.
  • 📦 Shock-absorbing inserts, dampers and protective pads.
  • ⚙️ Grey technical parts, engineering mockups and neutral functional models.

✅ 3D printer compatibility

eSUN TPU-LW Grey is compatible with FDM/FFF 3D printers using 1.75 mm filament and supporting nozzle temperatures up to 270 ℃. It can be printed on Bambu Lab, Creality, Prusa, Anycubic, Elegoo, Sovol, QIDI, Flashforge and other popular 3D printers when the print profile is properly tuned.

For TPU-LW, Direct Drive is preferred. Bowden printing is possible, but it requires lower speed, careful feeding and minimal resistance in the filament path. Stable temperature, speed and flow are especially important for consistent foaming.

📦 Storage and preparation

  • Store the spool in a dry place, preferably in a sealed bag or container with desiccant.
  • Before important prints, dry the material at 55 ℃ for more than 4 hours.
  • For long print jobs, use a filament dry box or eBOX.
  • Do not leave the spool open in a humid room.
  • If bubbles, unstable extrusion, excessive stringing or rough surface appear, dry the material before printing.

🛡️ Safety and certification

TPU-LW should be printed in a well-ventilated area. The material can burn when exposed to ignition sources, so it should be stored away from open flames, sparks, hot surfaces and strong oxidizing agents. During mechanical processing of printed parts, safety glasses and a mask are recommended if dust is generated.

According to official RoHS and REACH reports, TPU-LW is included in a tested sample group. These reports confirm the tested samples, but they are not a universal guarantee for every finished part, especially for skin contact, children’s products, food-contact use or special operating conditions.

❓ FAQ

Is TPU-LW the same as regular TPU?

No. TPU-LW is a lightweight foamable TPU. During printing, it can expand in volume, reducing the density and weight of the finished part.

Why is the spool 0.75 kg instead of 1 kg?

eSUN TPU-LW is officially specified as a 0.75 kg net weight filament. It is a separate lightweight line, so 0.75 kg should be used in the product card.

Should retraction be disabled?

Yes. For TPU-LW, retraction should be disabled or minimized. The material keeps foaming inside the hot nozzle zone, so retraction may work incorrectly and reduce print stability.

Why does stringing appear?

Stringing may appear because TPU-LW continuously foams inside the nozzle. This is normal for this type of filament. To reduce its impact, use vase mode, avoid printing multiple models at once and keep printing speed stable.

Can TPU-LW be printed on a Bowden printer?

Yes, but Direct Drive is preferred. On a Bowden printer, reduce speed, minimize feeding resistance and carefully tune temperature, flow and retraction.

What is grey TPU-LW best for?

Grey TPU-LW is suitable for lightweight flexible models, aircraft models, ship models, cosplay parts, sporting accessories, wearable products, dampers, protective pads, engineering prototypes and technical parts with a neutral appearance.
